Day 2: Off-Piste Training & Technique

Today marks your first off-piste skiing adventure in the Dolomites! You’ll start with easier off-piste descents and progressively tackle more challenging terrain as the day unfolds. For this initial day, you’ll take advantage of the impressive lift system that accesses off-piste areas. This allows you to concentrate on your downhill technique while giving your guide ample opportunity to assess your skills and provide personalized coaching. Throughout the day and the rest of the week, your guide will offer tips and techniques to enhance your overall skiing performance, focusing on specific areas of technique and body posture that may need adjustment. But don’t get too used to the lifts today—soon, you’ll be earning your turns for the remainder of the trip!

Day 3: Ski Touring in Fanes-Sennes-Braies Natural Park

After breakfast, a private transfer will take you to Pederu (~50 minutes), located at the base of the Fanes-Sennes-National Park, where you’ll continue to your rifugio via snow-cat.

Over the next three days, we’ll concentrate on skiing, orientation, and avalanche safety. You’ll build upon the off-piste skills you learned on the first day, with your guide offering further coaching to refine your technique for handling varying snow conditions and slopes. You’ll receive terrain-specific tips and learn to adapt your skiing style accordingly.

In addition, you’ll dive into ski touring, learning essential skills like route planning and choosing an ascent line. You’ll become familiar with your equipment, including switching boots and bindings from climbing to descending, and managing climbing skins. You’ll also master techniques such as efficient skiing with skins, kick turns (including uphill kick turns on steep terrain), using ski crampons, and knowing when to remove your skis for boot packing. One of the most exciting aspects will be learning how to identify the best—and safest—snow for your descent, all while enjoying remarkable off-piste turns in the backcountry.

Crucially, during these three days, you’ll gain avalanche safety knowledge and rescue techniques, equivalent to a one-day avalanche awareness and search-and-rescue foundations course. This will provide you with a solid understanding of the skills necessary for future off-piste adventures.

By the end of this experience, you’ll feel confident navigating and skiing off-piste terrain and fully prepared for the final two days of ski touring!
